Additional Mathematics Teacher
8th Of May SecondaryRegion 2
About the post
Teaching and learning - Plan and teach the full CSEC Additional Mathematics syllabus: Algebra and Functions, Coordinate Geometry, Vectors and Trigonometry, Introductory Calculus (differentiation and integration), and Basic Mathematical Applications (statistics and probability, kinematics). - Prepare schemes of work and lesson plans aligned to the CXC syllabus and the Ministry of Education's curriculum guides, sequenced so the syllabus is completed with adequate revision time before the May/June examination. - Use a range of teaching approaches — worked examples, problem-solving, investigations, graphing tools and ICT where available — to build conceptual understanding, not only procedural skill. - Differentiate for a class that ranges from strong to exceptional, stretching the most able while ensuring every student can access the content. School-Based Assessment (SBA) - Guide each student through the CSEC Additional Mathematics SBA project: topic selection, mathematical modelling, data collection and analysis, and written report. - Mark SBAs against the CXC mark scheme, moderate internally, and submit marks and samples to CXC by the published deadlines. Assessment and examination preparation - Set, mark and return regular assignments, topic tests and mock examinations modelled on CSEC Papers 1 and 2. - Track each student's progress, identify gaps early, and run remedial or extension sessions (including after-school or holiday classes where needed). - Advise students and parents on readiness for the examination and on progression to CAPE Pure Mathematics. Professional and departmental duties - Maintain accurate records of attendance, marks and syllabus coverage; provide term reports and grades on time. - Contribute to the Mathematics Department: share resources, take part in moderation, departmental meetings and the school's academic planning. - Support the wider Mathematics programme (e.g. Mathematics club, Olympiad or regional competitions, peer tutoring). - Keep up to date with CXC syllabus changes, examiner reports and subject pedagogy; attend Ministry, NCERD and CXC professional-development sessions. - Maintain classroom discipline and a safe, respectful learning environment consistent with the school's policies and the Ministry's code of conduct.
